Buy your MTB with the help of the bicycle plan

If your mountain bike is made for adventure, you're going to look for it!
There is nothing more fun than taking on the challenge with your friends and exploring all the beautiful MTB tracks that our country has to offer. There are more than 200 courses in the Netherlands alone. Cycling on specially constructed challenging courses (through forests, heathland and nature) with lengths ranging from 20 to 40 kilometers. After a steep climb you will be rewarded with a fast descent. How cool is that?!

Will you take on this challenge with an ultra-light carbon hard tail or a comfortable fully? Or maybe you opt for an e-MTB with a strong motor, which will help you to brave that difficult path in the woods or to keep going just a little longer. A good bicycle, tailored to your wishes, offers you the opportunity to discover the world.

The prices of these MTB bikes start at +/- €800 and you can make it as crazy as you want. We can imagine that this could be a barrier and would therefore like to tell you something about the bicycle plan that you can access through your employer.

How does a bicycle plan work?
This is probably the first question that comes to your mind? It's actually very simple. You can purchase a new bicycle through your employer at great advantage. This is done via the WKR, which stands for Work Cost Scheme. You pay for the bicycle from your gross salary components, such as your kilometer allowance. Normally you buy a new (electric) bicycle with your net salary, on which you have already paid income tax. Now you actually pay no tax on the entire amount, which is of course advantageous! The higher your gross salary (and therefore the tax bracket), the more benefits you have.

Calculation examples:

Suppose you want to purchase a hardtail for €900. Because it is deducted from your gross salary, you pay a maximum of €565 if you fall fully into the tax bracket of 37.35% (this benefit will be even greater with a higher tax bracket).

If you do opt for the e-bike, it will be slightly more expensive. For example, you can purchase an e-MTB for €2900. You will then pay a maximum of €1820 if you fall fully into the 37.35% tax bracket.

By purchasing your bicycle you actually reduce your gross salary, which means you pay less net tax. Normally you would first have to pay 37.35% tax on that €3000, but now you are in fact receiving it as a gift and the purchase price is therefore not €3000, but €1880!

A bicycle plan from your work not only provides you with a tax benefit, but your employer also benefits from it. This means he pays fewer employer social security contributions and can express his appreciation in a relatively simple way. As an employer, he invests in a sustainable and clean environment with a bicycle plan and contributes to corporate social responsibility. This is considered positive by many customers and is becoming increasingly important today. He also works on vitality and reducing absenteeism by having employees cycle.
